Estimation of Greenhouse gas emissions using OpenStreetMap

The project "Estimation of Greenhouse gas emissions using OpenStreetMap" examines the usefulness of publicly available proxy data, such as OpenStreetMap (OSM), for the estimation of greenhouse gas emissions. Within the project the quality of the proxy data is evaluated and a high-resolution greenhouse gas emission iventory is presented.
For this purpose, relevant greenhouse gas emitters are grouped into sectors following the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Emission Factor Database (EFDB). Accordingly, OpenStreetMap tags are analyzed and aggregated according to the IPCC EDFB sectors. Next, emission values are assigned to the corresponding OSM objects resulting in an emission map. Finally, the quality of the emission inventory is examined using Artificial intelligence (AI).
